Until the late 1970s, CCTV held only evening broadcasts, usually closing down at midnight. During the summer and winter academic vacations, it occasionally transmitted daytime programming for students. In 1980 CCTV experimented with news relays from local and central television studios via microwave.[4] By 1985, CCTV had already become a leading television network in China. In 1987 CCTV's popularity soared due to the adaptation and presentation of Dream of the Red Chamber. The 36-episode TV series—the first Chinese television drama to enter the global market—[5] still remains popular in the international market. In the same year, CCTV exported 10,216 programmes to 77 foreign television stations.[5]
The studies included in the meta-analysis used quasi-experimental evaluation designs that involve before-and-after measures of crime in experimental and control areas.[26] However, several researchers have pointed to methodological problems associated with this research literature. First, researchers have argued that the British car park studies included in the meta-analysis cannot accurately control for the fact that CCTV was introduced simultaneously with a range of other security-related measures.[27] Second, some have noted that, in many of the studies, there may be issues with selection bias since the introduction of CCTV was potentially endogenous to previous crime trends.[28] In particular, the estimated effects may be biased if CCTV is introduced in response to crime trends.[29]
Remote view your security cameras over the web using our Free Apps for the iPhone, iPad, Android, and Windows mobile phones.  Using our latest H.264 and H.265 DVRs and NVRs, all of our security camera systems have the ability to be viewed remotely and send motion alerts by email or push alert to your Smartphone. Regardless of whether you use analog CCTV or HDCVI cameras that use coax cabling for the video feed, or IP cameras that use network cabling, remote viewing and motion alerts are a standard feature of all our systems which is made possible by our best in industry DVRs.  After proper networking is established or using our QR code easy setup, you can view your surveillance cameras directly from your phone, tablet, or computer in as little as 30 seconds setup time! With camera systems by CCTV Camera World, you can rest easy at home knowing your business is secure, or keep an eye on things at home while you're busy at the office!

You’ll have to purchase a hard drive separately since the system doesn’t include one. The maximum resolution is 1080p at 12fps. If you opt for a 1 TB hard drive, four cameras recording at maximum quality would give you about 10 days of recording. If you record at a lower quality of 720p at 25fps, you’ll get about 15 to 20 days of recordings, which would fall in the middle of competitors’ maximum recording.

No one wants their phone to get overwhelmed with alerts. Shouldn’t your camera know the difference between someone breaking in and a branch moving outside? We solved the "camera-cried-wolf" problem. SimpliCam’s intelligent detection algorithms are calibrated to detect the unique heat signature of humans, so the alerts you get are the ones that matter.
Upgrade business security with 16-camera systems. The cameras can be easily mounted to walls or ceilings so you can put one wherever you need added security. The cameras capture footage and send it to the 16-Channel HD DVR. The DVR system can be connected to a TV or monitor to review footage and it can even stream real-time video to a smart device or internet browser.
If you want to monitor the rooms of your home, there are plenty of options. If you want to keep an eye on your driveway, backyard, or front porch, you need to be more choosy. Not all home security cameras are rugged enough to be mounted outdoors. You need a camera that's waterproof and can stand up to rain, snow, and sun, and survive the extreme temperatures of summer and winter. Our current favorite camera for outdoor surveillance is the Netgear Arlo Pro 2. The Ring Spotlight Cam, meanwhile, also works as a bright outdoor light.

Experiments in the UK during the 1970s and 1980s, including outdoor CCTV in Bournemouth in 1985, led to several larger trial programs later that decade. The first use by local government was in King's Lynn, Norfolk, in 1987.[25] These were deemed successful in the government report "CCTV: Looking Out For You", issued by the Home Office in 1994, and paved the way for an increase in the number of CCTV systems installed. Today, systems cover most town and city centres, and many stations, car-parks and estates.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is sometimes simply called video surveillance. CCTV refers to a system of video feeds that are transmitted within a closed system from various security cameras. CCTV is distinct from broadcast television, in that signals are not sent out for just anyone to intercept. Rather, video streams are available only to authorized users. In practical terms, any home security camera surveillance system is technically a CCTV system. Only you, the user, and your authorized agents, are able to access and review feeds from the cameras in the system.
Analogue signals can also be converted into a digital signal to enable the recordings to be stored on a PC as digital recordings. In that case the analogue video camera must be plugged directly into a video capture card in the computer, and the card then converts the analogue signal to digital. These cards are relatively cheap, but inevitably the resulting digital signals are compressed 5:1 (MPEG compression) in order for the video recordings to be saved on a continuous basis.
Another factor to consider when outdoor surveillance camera shopping is the camera’s resolution. The higher the camera resolution, the clearer and easier the images will be to see. Ideally, you’ll want 1080p or higher resolution for the clearest images. Keep in mind that if you connect your camera to a DVR or other recording device, it will also need to be HD compatible in order to keep the image at a high quality.
CCTV relies on strategic placement of cameras, and observation of the camera's input on monitors somewhere. Because the cameras communicate with monitors and/or video recorders across private coaxial cable runs or wireless communication links, they gain the designation "closed-circuit" to indicate that access to their content is limited by design only to those able to see it.

Indoor security cameras don’t need to be quite as tough as the ones you install outside, but they should be unobtrusive. Many people look for indoor cameras designed to complement their home’s décor. For both types of security cameras, note how they’re powered and consider the proximity of a power source if they don’t run on batteries. The last thing you need is a dead security camera when it matters most.

There’s a reason that Nest landed in the top two for both indoor and outdoor security cameras. When it comes to bells and whistles, the Nest Cam Outdoor security camera is hard to beat. The Nest Cam is missing a siren alarm, as well as pan and tilt capability, but these are easily overlooked when you consider its industry-leading two-year equipment warranty, wide-angle range of view, and seamless home automation integration ability. Nest Cam Outdoor boasts a 4.3-star rating on Amazon, and more than 2,800 online reviews.
Shortly after iOS, Android mobile was launched by Google. We quickly launched an Android version of our original IP camera viewer app and since then we have launched additional Android apps for the different DVR lines that we supply. We are currently recommending our iDVR-PRO Viewer app for Android. This app allows users to connect to one of more DVR locations and view all of the their security cameras live. The app also supports recorded video search and playback from remotely over the Internet. The iDVR-PRO Viewer app is included with all iDVR-PRO surveillance DVRs and 1080p HD camera systems. You can learn more about how to view your security cameras remotely from Android here.

YP - The Real Yellow PagesSM - helps you find the right local businesses to meet your specific needs. Search results are sorted by a combination of factors to give you a set of choices in response to your search criteria. These factors are similar to those you might use to determine which business to select from a local Yellow Pages directory, including proximity to where you are searching, expertise in the specific services or products you need, and comprehensive business information to help evaluate a business's suitability for you. “Preferred” listings, or those with featured website buttons, indicate YP advertisers who directly provide information about their businesses to help consumers make more informed buying decisions. YP advertisers receive higher placement in the default ordering of search results and may appear in sponsored listings on the top, side, or bottom of the search results page.
Excellent product, great quality images, easy to set up and superb after sales support if needed. I bought the system after my father was scammed by a bogus builder I now feel far more secure that with this system in plain view and recording 27/7 my dads home will not be a target for such criminals again, and the very reasonable cost was a small price to pay for such peace of mind.
Using the Nest app you can quickly build up a network of external or internal cameras, with other models such as the Nest Cam Outdoor, which is a little cheaper. Plus you will also have to pay more for the Nest Aware subscription package to get its facial recognition features. Being a Google-owned product it works with Google Assistant so you can talk to the camera.
Proponents of CCTV cameras argue that cameras are effective at deterring and solving crime, and that appropriate regulation and legal restrictions on surveillance of public spaces can provide sufficient protections so that an individual's right to privacy can reasonably be weighed against the benefits of surveillance.[91][92][93] However, anti-surveillance activists have held that there is a right to privacy in public areas. Furthermore, while it is true that there may be scenarios wherein a person's right to public privacy can be both reasonably and justifiably compromised, some scholars have argued that such situations are so rare as to not sufficiently warrant the frequent compromising of public privacy rights that occurs in regions with widespread CCTV surveillance. For example, in her book Setting the Watch: Privacy and the Ethics of CCTV Surveillance, Beatrice von Silva-Tarouca Larsen argues that CCTV surveillance is ethically permissible only in "certain restrictively defined situations", such as when a specific location has a "comprehensively documented and significant criminal threat".[94] Her central reasoning is that widespread CCTV surveillance violates citizens' rights to privacy and anonymity within the public sphere by jeopardizing both their liberty and dignity. She concludes that CCTV surveillance should therefore be reserved for specific circumstances in which there are clear and reasonably demonstrated benefits to its implementation and few ethical compromises.

Another way to store recordings on a non-analogue media is through the use of a digital video recorder (DVR). Such a device is similar in functionality to a PC with a capture card and appropriate video recording software. Unlike PCs, most DVRs designed for CCTV purposes are embedded devices that require less maintenance and simpler setup than a PC-based solution, for a medium to large number of analogue cameras.

There are a wide variety of CCTV cameras available, with designs using variations in shape, size, or camera type to achieve a particular goal. Some security cameras come in dome shapes, while others use the more standard rectangular shape that is widely recognized. One important factor to consider is whether the security camera uses visible light or infrared to capture images, as the two are used in drastically different scenarios. IR designs are great for keeping a location secure at night, or in low-light conditions, because they don't use visible light to create an image, they use the infrared radiation given off by a person's body to detect and build an image of their surroundings. Some CCTV systems use what are called IP cameras, which can broadcast their feeds over the internet, making it possible to see what's going on from all over the world.
There are a variety of lens sizes available for CCTV cameras. Generally, the smaller the size of the lens in millimeters(mm), the wider angle of view it provides. For example, a 2.8mm lens provides an angle of view slightly wider than 90 degrees. a 3.6mm lens is slightly less than 90 degrees. You can access a more detailed article to compare security camera lens sizes here.
Security camera installation is available. CCTV Camera Pros has partnered with local installers around the United States to assist customers who are also looking for installation services. We have qualified installation partners who can assist with home, business, and government security projects. Please visit our CCTV video surveillance installations page to see the locations where we have partners.
CCTV Camera Pros is a direct supplier of security cameras (analog CCTV, 720p and 1080p HD CCTV, and network IP), video surveillance systems, and CCTV equipment (Closed Circuit Television). We supply video surveillance systems for home, business and government. We sell to end users, resellers, and installers. We started our company in 2006 specializing in CCTV camera systems. As technology advanced, we expanded our product offering to network IP cameras and HD security camera systems that use AHD cameras (analog high definition), HD-SDI, and TVI cameras. We also carry hundreds of video surveillance accessories such as DVRs, cables, connectors, tools, test monitors, and more.
IP-based cameras carry out the same function as analog ones, but with a host of extra capabilities. IP cameras typically offer better images with higher resolution and more flexibility, allowing users to e-mail video images for consultation. In a large organization with many facilities, insurance companies often prefer, and in some cases demand, IP systems.
In the United States, the Constitution does not explicitly include the right to privacy although the Supreme Court has said several of the amendments to the Constitution implicitly grant this right.[95] Access to video surveillance recordings may require a judge's writ, which is readily available.[96] However, there is little legislation and regulation specific to video surveillance.[97][98]
While the terms are regularly used interchangeably, there is a slight difference between security cameras and surveillance cameras. The difference is whether a camera is passive or active. Surveillance cameras are passive. They observe and/or record whatever is happening in their field of view. Security cameras are active. They alert people to unexpected events within their field of view. This distinction can be very subtle or very large depending on the circumstances of a particular situation. For instance, if a surveillance camera sends a constant feed to a monitor that is continually viewed by a security guard, it is essentially functioning as a security camera because simply by viewing the feed from the camera the guard would be alerted to anything unexpected happening within its field of view. However, most modern security cameras have the ability to detect motion and send alerts to owners or authorities via text or emails.
There is a cost in the retention of the images produced by CCTV systems. The amount and quality of data stored on storage media is subject to compression ratios, images stored per second, image size and is effected by the retention period of the videos or images.[113] DVRs store images in a variety of proprietary file formats. Recordings may be retained for a preset amount of time and then automatically archived, overwritten or deleted, the period being determined by the organisation that generated them.

Because network cameras are embedded devices, and do not need to output an analogue signal, resolutions higher than closed-circuit television 'CCTV' analogue cameras are possible. A typical analogue CCTV camera has a PAL (768×576 pixels) or NTSC (720×480 pixels), whereas network cameras may have VGA (640×480 pixels), SVGA (800×600 pixels) or quad-VGA (1280×960 pixels, also referred to as "megapixel") resolutions.
Journalists working for CCTV-NEWS, the network's English-language international channel, are under constant pressure to present a positive account of China, according to Anne-Marie Brady's study published in 2008. "In August 2005, a series of items reported factually on the coal mining disaster in China; soon after the channel's leaders received a warning from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that its reports were harming China's international image. Following this incident, senior editorial staff and journalists were all forced to write self-criticisms."[2]

During the coalition's military intervention in Libya in 2011, reports from CCTV tended to support Gaddafi's arguments, claiming that the coalition forces attacked Libya civilians and the military intervention was no different from an invasion. In some of the news reports, CCTV used pictures of protesters demonstration and said that these people were against the coalition's military intervention. CCTV also mislabeled a person holding a banner which said "Vive la France" ("long live France" in French) and claimed that he was a supporter of Gaddafi. Later on 27 March, a Chinese banner that said "Muammar Gaddafi is a lier. [sic]" was shown up in some Libyan demonstration videos from Internet.[55]
The local Lenoir, North Carolina crime index is 157, compared to the national crime index risk score of 100. Scores are based on demographic and geographic analyses crime over seven years. Every five minutes 3 robberies occur in the United States. On average homes are three times less likely to be broken into when there's a home security system installed. Having a home security system should be seriously considered by home owners living in Lenoir. One in four Lenoir homes may be burglarized in a year's time with an average loss of over $1,700. This could be higher in some parts of North Carolina—home security systems save money and lives.
Finding the best home security camera comes down to whether it meets your specific needs. Do you want a security camera to deter burglars, or are you more interested in keeping an eye on children or pets? Before you dive into the specs and features of different home security cameras, take the time to identify why you want the camera and what you need it to do.
Need a camera to keep an eye on the kids? Try an economical indoor, hardwired option. Or, browse our selection of covert cameras that enable ordinary-looking objects with the powers of video surveillance. We also have a wide range of plug-in, battery powered, or rechargeable wireless cameras that can be easily mounted to a wall or ceiling–or conveniently place on a tabletop or window sill.

One of the first decisions that you'll need to make is if you need a wireless or wired security camera system, and the correct answer likely depends on where you intend to place the cameras and components. If you have the luxury of being able to drill holes and run wires, you'll appreciate not having to deal with batteries, and may want to look at a wired system. On the other hand, if running wires isn't realistic, you'll enjoy the versatility that Wi-Fi and wireless cameras offer. All these considerations will affect what system you ultimately choose. For example, if you need to capture high-definition surveillance video over long periods, bandwidth is a consideration.
Ok I have been testing the unit and for the price the cameras give very good clean video ,camera's connect up to the NVR wit out problem , NVR works well and is very flexible in its operation , night vision good very clear , motion detection works well. The camera's are not equiped to pick up sound , but the NVR can record sound , the camera's are not PTZ.
When it comes to smart features, we investigate a wide variety of capabilities depending on the type of home security camera. They include monitoring zones, facial recognition, voice control (with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple’s Siri), geofencing, smartphone alerts, two-way audio, scheduling, and zoom/pan controls. All these features factor into our unique Smart IQ score for smart home devices, allowing you to see which cameras are smarter than the competition.
Before you pick the camera or doorbell you want, be sure to check how much free cloud storage it comes with and how much additional storage costs. Most manufacturers opt for cloud storage—where the footage is remotely stored on a server—instead of memory cards because the video files are large. Without cloud storage, if you miss an alert for a potential intruder you’ll have no idea whether someone tried to break in. Many of these cameras also won’t let you download clips to send to authorities unless you pay up.
The UK Highways Agency has a publicly owned CCTV network of over 3000 Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras covering the British motorway and trunk road network. These cameras are primarily used to monitor traffic conditions and are not used as speed cameras. With the addition of fixed cameras for the active traffic management system, the number of cameras on the Highways Agency's CCTV network is likely to increase significantly over the next few years.[citation needed]
In the United States, Britain,[48] Australia[49] and New Zealand, CCTV is widely used in schools due to its success in preventing bullying, vandalism, monitoring visitors and maintaining a record of evidence in the event of a crime. There are some restrictions on installation, with cameras not being installed in an area where there is a "reasonable expectation of privacy", such as bathrooms, gym locker areas and private offices (unless consent by the office occupant is given). Сameras are generally acceptable in hallways, parking lots, front offices where students, employees, and parents come and go, gymnasiums, cafeterias, supply rooms and classrooms. The installation of cameras in classrooms may be objected to by some teachers.[50]
In South Africa due to the high crime rate CCTV surveillance is widely prevalent but the country has been slow to implement the latest technology e.g. the first IP camera was released in 1996 by Axis Communications but IP cameras didn't arrive in South Africa till 2008.[84] In order to regulate the number of suppliers in 2001 the Private Security Industry Regulation Act was passed requiring all security companies to be registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).[85]
China Central Television (CCTV, formerly Beijing Television), is the predominant state television broadcaster in the People's Republic of China. CCTV has a network of 50 channels broadcasting different programmes and is accessible to more than one billion viewers.[1] As of present, there are 50 television channels, and the broadcaster provides programming in six different languages. Most of its programmes are a mixture of news, documentary, social education, comedy, entertainment, and drama, the majority of which consists of Chinese soap operas and entertainment.[2]

If you have valuables that you want to protect, it’s often impossible to lock everything away in a safe or keep them with you when you leave the house, so it makes sense to install CCTV or a home camera. A home camera is small and unobtrusive, but it'll help you relax when you’re not at home, safe in the knowledge that if anything should happen, it'll all be caught on film.
